Paducah Day 4 Going Home

Packed up the car and left Paducah at 8:15.  Cool and cloundy weather.  As we drove thru St. Louis, the top of the arch was invisible.  Ran into ran showers.  At Hannibal Mo we detoured to the historic downtown area where the quilt shop Hickory Stick is.  The shop is open even on Sunday, except Mother's Day.   www.hickorystickquiltshop.com. 

Arrival time home was 6:30 pm.  It was a great quilt adventure.

Paducah Day 3

sunny day and we ware ready to go again to see more of Paducah. we walked about 6 blocks to the downtown area after parking by the convention center. First stop the Quilt in a Day store that is Eleanor Burns's shop. It had $5.00 and $3.00 fabric in the back room. I found a heavy weight denim colored stripe that will make a great bag. The Fenkle building downtown was an older empty building converted to a shopping mall for quilters for the week. The AQS publishing was having a book sale with lots of books for $5. I got a Jean wells book but could've gotten more. Colleen loved the Primitive Gathering booth. I bought some 30's fabric for a quilt I am planning. lunch was at the best deli in Paducah with an adjoining bakery. I had turkey on cranberry/walnut bread. Kirchhoff's Colleen had a roast beef with Navarro cheese and grilled onions with French sour dough. Donna raved about their pasta salad. At the bakery for dessert, Sandy had lemon bar, Colleen had oatmeal, chocolate, raisen, pecan cookie called the "cowboy". Also she tried an oatmeal chocolate chunk cookie. Donna tried their sugar cookie. the streets in this area were old bricks and were tree covered. the buildings have been preserved, but there was flooding last year, may have closed some of the stores. the flood wall is decorated with scenes of the Indians that lived in the area. Barge traffic on the Ohio river. will have to write more later time for bed.

Day 2 in Paducah

I went to a Fabric Frenzie at the National Quilt Museum at 8 am held outside with about 4 tables with fabric on it.   For $10.00, all the fabric you can put in a quart baggy and still shut it.  The fabric was donated and it benefited the museum.  What fun and orderly chaos, it was three people deep, and as bags were filled, people left the table and gave others more room. Most pieces were half yard chunks of fabric. I went inside the museum where there was a display of a challenge -Quilts made from a traditional block - Basket Block. Also an  exhibit of quilts from England- art quilts including one made from English paper piecing only with paper on both sides. there was an outline of a woman in the colors of the paper.

Lots of vendors to see and lots of quilts to see too. I ran into ???  from Creston Quilts and Other Notions, who's aunt's quilt is also in the show - they were doing the quilt show in one day!!  Carla sent me a text so I had to call her back while shopping.

Outside for lunch was a food area, and there were lots of vendors serving food state fair style and picnic tables under tents. It was cool and I wore my new sweatshirt with the club logo on it.   With celll phones it was easy to connect with C and D.  A drawing is being held for a red Ford Focus with  quilt decorations. 

Around 4 in the afternoon it was pouring down rain but had stopped by 6 pm when  I had met up with C+D when the show closed up. We ate supper at Cracker Barrel with Colleen meeting a lady "Crafty Bear" who she has talked to on Quilting Board after over hearing her comment about it.
One thing I got from www.ezpiecing.com is a pattern for a pineapple quilt. Check it out! time for shower and breakfast. More later.

Traveling- 4 states in 1 day

Today, Colleen, Donna and I traveled to Paducah for the AQS show. left my house at 6:15 am and stopped at Homestead Hearth in Mexico MO.

All of scored things we couldn't leave behind. It is a wonderful store and something for everyone. Ate lunch in the Jackson Street diner nearby. "Mr. garmin" took us thru downtown St. Louis so we saw the arch as we hurried on down the road. light traffic and arrived in Paducah to check in at 5 p.m. drove to the convention center to pick up our tickets and walked in to find Colleen's quilt in the center row first cubicle to the right.

No extra ribbons were attached but it is best of show in our book. Look at the winners on the AQS web site. The show ended at 6pm so we went to Hancocks fabric store, very busy place! Spent an hour looking around sand then went to supper. More news tomorrow with the CC Piecemakers Travelers.
